This does not necessarily mean 200 hours sitting in class. Practice outside the classroom can also contribute to progress: reading, listening to podcasts, watching content in the original version or having conversations in the language are ways to increase exposure.
The importance of having a teacher
Time is important, but so is how it is used.
A specialized teacher can identify each student's most frequent mistakes, adapt activities to their needs and work in a balanced way on listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing.
In addition, having specific goals and receiving feedback makes it possible to know which aspects need to be reinforced in order to move toward the next level.
